Coral Vale · One-to-one coaching

Train for the next thirty years, not the next thirty days

Strength coaching for adults who want to lift well, move without nagging pain, and keep the habit alive when the week gets loud.

Sessions run 55 minutes · Plans written between sessions · Blocks of eight or twelve weeks

Approach

Four things that don't change

Every programme at Coral Vale is written for one person, but the method underneath stays the same. If these four suit how you want to train, we will probably work well together.

  1. Assess before we load anything

The first session is a movement screen, a few easy working sets, and a conversation about your week. Nothing maximal, nothing tested for the sake of a number. You leave with a plan rather than a sore back.

  2. Two anchors a week, protected

Most people do better with two sessions they never miss than four they resent. We pick the two slots that survive a busy month and build the block around them. Extra days are a bonus, not the load-bearing wall.

  3. The plan is written between sessions

Your log is updated after each session, not improvised on the floor. Weights, sets, rest and any swaps are written down before you arrive, so the hour is spent lifting rather than deciding.

  4. Progress you can actually name

Each block opens and closes with the same three checks: a lower-body lift, an upper-body lift and a carry. You finish knowing exactly what moved, and what the next block should chase.

Training blocks

Three ways to train here

Everything is sold as a block rather than a loose session, because a written programme needs a runway. Pick the one that matches where you are now — we can change direction at the end of any block.

Block one

Foundation

For coming back after a long gap, an injury, or a first proper attempt at strength work. We spend the early weeks on hinge, squat, push, pull and carry, then start adding load once the pattern holds under fatigue.

Format
One-to-one
Length
8 weeks, 2 sessions a week
Between
Written log plus one short home routine
Suits
Anyone who wants the basics coached properly first

Block two

Strength

Barbell-led work for people who already train and want the numbers to move again. Squat, deadlift and press cycles with accessory work chosen around whatever your job does to your shoulders and hips.

Format
One-to-one
Length
12 weeks, 2 coached sessions a week
Between
One written solo day you run yourself
Suits
Lifters with a year or more of consistent training

Block three

Pair training

Two people, one coach, one hour. You train the same structure on your own loads and alternate sets, so the session stays quick without turning into a class. Best booked with someone whose schedule matches yours.

Format
Two people, coached together
Length
8 weeks, 1 session a week
Between
Shared written plan, individual loads
Suits
Partners, friends or colleagues who train better with company

What happens

Your first six weeks

A block is easier to commit to when you know its shape. This is how a Foundation or Strength start usually runs, give or take a week depending on how your body responds.

  1. Before we start

    A short conversation

You send an enquiry, we talk through your goal, your history and the two slots you can actually hold. If the studio isn't the right fit, I'll say so and point you somewhere better.

  2. Week one

Screen, baselines and the first plan

Movement screen, easy working sets on the main patterns, and the opening version of your log. Expect to leave feeling like you could have done more — that is deliberate.

  3. Weeks two to three

    Technique under light load

We keep the weight honest and drill the setup until it repeats without thinking. Any pattern that aggravates an old issue gets swapped now rather than worked around later.

  4. Weeks four to six

    Load starts climbing

Sets get heavier, rest gets structured, and your solo day is added if you want one. By week six most people have a clear best set on at least one main lift and know what the next block is for.

Coach & studio

Who you'll be training with

A lifter setting up under a loaded barbell in a quiet training studio
Coached barbell work on the main platform. Sessions are one-to-one unless you book pair training.
Most people don't need a harder session. They need a plan that survives a bad week and a coach who remembers what they did last Tuesday. Rowan Vance, coach

Rowan has coached general-population lifters for the better part of a decade, mostly people who sit down for work and want to stop feeling breakable. The studio is deliberately small: two platforms, no queues, and the same coach every session.

On the training floor

  • Two lifting platforms with full racks
  • 20kg and 15kg bars, plus a trap bar
  • Dumbbells to 40kg in 2kg steps
  • Adjustable benches and boxes
  • Sled track and a rower
  • Kettlebells, bands and suspension straps
  • Chalk, belts and straps to borrow
  • Changing room and showers

Weekly schedule

When the studio runs

Slots are held for the length of your block, so availability changes when a block ends rather than week to week. Waitlisted times usually open every eight to twelve weeks.

Questions

Before you enquire

I haven't trained in years. Is Foundation still the right start?

Yes, and it is the most common starting point here. The first weeks are built for people whose last gym visit was a long time ago. We load the patterns you can already do well and leave the rest until they are ready.

What actually happens in the first session?

A conversation about your history and your week, a movement screen through the five main patterns, some light working sets, and a walkthrough of your log. You will train, but you will not be tested to failure.

Do I need my own gym membership?

No. Coached sessions run in the Coral Vale studio and everything you need is here. If your block includes a solo day, it can be written for the studio or for whatever gym you already use.

What if I miss a week — travel, illness, a bad stretch at work?

Tell me as early as you can and the block is re-sequenced rather than abandoned. A missed week is planned around; a silent month is harder to rescue, so a short message always helps.

Can we train around an old injury?

Usually, yes. Bring any guidance you have been given and we work inside it. If something needs assessing by a clinician first, I will tell you before we start rather than three weeks in.

Will I get a plan for the days I train alone?

If you want one. Solo days are written into your log with the same detail as coached sessions, including loads, rest and what to do if a lift feels wrong that day. They are optional in every block.

Enquire

Ask about a slot

Tell me a little about where you are starting from and which times could work. You will get a reply with the slots that fit, what the block would look like, and what it costs.

No obligation — a reply is a conversation, not a booking.

What happens next

You get a written reply with the open slots that match your times and a short outline of the block I would suggest.

If we both think it fits, we book the first session and the screen happens there. Nothing is charged before that conversation.

If the studio isn't right for what you want, I'll say so plainly and suggest a better direction.
